Childhood Illness and Injury Prevention Program


The goal of the Childhood Illness and Injury Prevention Program (ChIIPP) is to reduce the number of preventable injuries, diseases, and poisonings among children under 14 years old through:

  • Education
  • Promotion of health and safety practices
Services Provided
  • Public awareness campaigns
  • Staff in-services and trainings
  • Educational materials and resources on child health and safety
  • 1 hour parent education workshops
  • Car seat safety inspections
  • 1 hour low-cost car seat safety appointments for parents
Program Staff

The program consists of a Program Coordinator and Health Education Assistant.  Staff participate in various meetings, including:
  • The Greater Sacramento Safe Kids Coalition
  • Perinatal Child Health Advisory Committee
  • Safe Beginnings
  • Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Alliance

To Qualify

  • Parents to children 0-14 years old
  • Foster care parents
  • Head Start Program and preschool staff
  • Health care providers
  • Emergency response providers
  • Family Services and social workers
  • Childcare providers
  • Home visitors who work with families of young children
  • Public Health Nurses who work with families of young children
